SMART Local #2 is hiring a Local Union Organizer to help grow our membership, strengthen our union, and support workers in the sheet metal industry. We are looking for a motivated and dedicated individual who is ready to take on this important role.
The ideal candidate is a self-starter with strong people skills, creative thinking, and the ability to work independently. Prior organizing experience is not required — training and mentorship will be provided.
Qualifications:
Required:
• A strong commitment to labor rights, fairness, and social justice.
• Excellent people skills—someone who can build trust and connect with others.
• A self-starter who is motivated, creative, and able to work independently.
• Willingness to learn new skills and take on challenges.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including some evenings, weekends, and travel.
• Basic computer skills (email, spreadsheets, Word, etc.) and a willingness to learn organizing tools like CRM software.
Preferred (but not required):
• Previous experience in leadership roles (workplace, union, or community).
• Familiarity with different aspects of the sheet metal industry.
• Bilingual (Spanish or other languages) is a plus.
