This General Safety Training (Lock Out Tag Out, Ladder Safety, Confined Space, Electrical Safety) is conducted by Syntax Safety Systems and lasts approximately 5 hours. All attendees completing the training will be issued a wallet card to carry on their person and a certificate for their employee file.
LockOut TagOut
Authorized employees must have the knowledge and skills necessary to safely apply, use, and remove energy-isolating devices. The training must include the following information:
• How to recognize hazardous energy sources.
• The types of energy at the facility and the magnitudes of the sources.
• Instruction on how to use the energy-control procedures, including the methods
and means to isolate and lock out those energy sources.
Affected employees, though they do not require the same level of training as authorized
employees, must receive training in the purpose and use of energy-control procedures. They
must be trained to do the following:
• Recognize when the energy-control procedure is being used.
• Understand the purpose of the procedure.
• Understand the importance of not tampering with lockout or tagout devices.
• Do not attempt to restart or use equipment that has been locked out.
Ladder Safety
Ladders are a very handy tool, both at work and around the home. They are used for tasks such as changing light bulbs and painting, to working at high levels or to reach elevated work areas. Ladders are such simple tools that many people forget the dangers involved when using a ladder. Falls are the leading cause of death in the construction industry and the misuse of ladders is one of the leading causes of fall-related injuries every year.
This training will focus on:
• Load Ratings
• Types of Ladders
• Selecting the Right Ladder
• Safety Rules
• Defective Ladders
• Ladder Storage
• Training Requirements
Confined Space
Construction work may require you to enter permit-required confined spaces, a specific type of confined space that can present fatal hazards. Examples of confined areas that OSHA may classify as permit spaces include tanks, sewers, storm drains, boilers, and HVAC ducts.
This course covers OSHA's confined spaces in construction standard (1926.1207), which requires all construction workers to receive adequate training before performing tasks inside permit-required confined spaces. Employers may require additional training on permit space safety before a worker can be considered an authorized entrant.
Electrical Safety in Construction
Electricity is one of the most common causes of injury and death in the construction industry. This course focuses on hazard identification, avoidance, and control measures to
keep you safe. We'll cover how electricity works, what determines the severity of the hazard, and the effects of electricity on the human body. You'll also learn the six main types of potentially fatal electrical injuries, cord and wire safety, safe power-tool use, how to use
