Joseph B. "Joe" Porter, 84, of Paola, Kan., formerly of Kansas City, Kan., died Tuesday, June 22, 2010, at his home. His family will be receiving friends from 4-7 p.m. Sunday at the Porter Funeral Home, 8535 Monrovia, Lenexa, Kan. Cremation. In lieu of flowers, his family suggests memorial contributions to Hospice of Olathe, 20333 W. 151st St., TDB2, Suite 301, Olathe, Kan., or to the LaCygne United Methodist Church Food Pantry, 402 Chestnut, LaCygne, KS 66040. Joe was born February 2, 1926, in Queens, N.Y., and had lived in Kansas City area for over 60 years before moving to the Paola area. He was an Army veteran of World War II, and a 50- year member of the Sheetmetal Workers Union, Local #2. Joe was very proud to have volunteered for the Quindaro Township Fire Department from 1955 to 1968. He most enjoyed stock car racing with his son, Tim, and the time spent with his family. He was a member of White Church Christian Church. Joe was preceded in death by his son, Bobby Porter, his parents, and a brother, and two sisters. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, JoAnn Vose Porter of the home; daughter Barbara (Dean) Duncan, La Cygne, Kan.; daughter Lori (Rick) Kuykendall, Black Springs, Ark.; son Tim (Diana) Porter, Liberty, Mo.; daughter Teresa Gretencord, Garnett, Kan.; brother Howard R. (Dorothy) Porter, Kansas City, Kan.; sister Virginia (Tom) Hatley, Hurst, Texas; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Kenneth K. Katekaru, Sr., 78, of Lee's Summit, Mo., passed away on June 22, 2010. Kenneth suffered a brief illness. He is survived by his wife, Toni, of 55 years. He had three children, Beverly Jenkins of Independence, Kenny Katekaru, Jr. and his wife Barb of Raytown, and Paul Katekaru of Lee's Summit. He was additionally survived by five grandchildren, Delanie Bowen, James Jenkins, Kimberlee Katekaru, Kevin Katekaru and Kristen Katekaru; his brothers George and James, and sisters Gloria, Karen, Alice and Elaine. Kenneth was also blessed with five great grandchildren. Kenneth was a Korean War veteran. He was born in Kawai, Hawaii. He was a longtime resident of the Kansas City metro area.
